Kahan Se kahan Tak is journey back in time, a journey back to the roots, when the world was small, united and happy. It is true that evolution and globalistion had shrunken the world, but in the process it has shrunken our vision also. The partition took place in 1947. Regions were divided families were uprooted and divided. But in this serial we are not talking about the partition of the country and the suffering of the people. We are talking about the partition which took place over the years The neighbours who once upon a time lived as one family discarded the human values, forgot the concept of love and brother hood.
The central character of this serial is Col. Prem Prakash Bhandari who still believes in traditions, moral values, friendship and love. He belongs to Faridpur now in Pakistan. The sacred place where saints like Waris Shah, Guru Nanak and Bana farid shah were born. After the partition, he migrated to India with his family and settled down in Delhi. Many years have passed but he still treasures the fond memories of his childhood and his youth. He remembers and misses his friends, the good earth and his village. His mother still celebrates Rahmat’s Birthday, who was Bhandari’closet friend. Today his whereabouts are not known but the hope is alive that someday they would see him again.
And one day, Rahmat appears unexpectedly Bhandari is shocked when he learns that he escaped from the prison. Rahmat explains that unknowingly, he crossed the border line and the Border Security Force arrested him. There was no appeal and no hearing. They suspected him to be a spy and he languished in jail for nine long years. Now he desperately wanted to return to his family and village. He pleads, with Bandar, and says, please reach me home.
Bhandari extremely happy to meet his long lost friend but he is tense also because he is giving shelter to a man who is a criminal in the eyes of the law. The entire family takes precaution to hide the fact that Rahmat was staying with them. During his stay, Dadima has long chats with Rahmat about the village and his family. Dadima is pleased when the she realises that Rahmat is the same simpleton he used to be. How he used to be. How she wished that he could stay with them forever, or she could accompany him to Faridpur. But there were restrictions being the mother of an army officer she would never be granted visa.
Bhandari discreetly plans to reach Rahmat to the border. And one night he manages to reach him to the Punjab Border. At the last moment when Rahmat was about to cross, a bullet hits him. Now Bhandari had no other option, but to go along with him.
Bhandari reached Faridpur with him and this time he is the fugitive. The memories rush back to him as he continues staying there. He remembers the school days and the romantic days of his youth. He remembers minute details of his childhood. How different festivals were celebrated in the village. Ram Leela was performed with great enthusiasm and gusto. Similarly, Hindus used to participate during Moharram. Diwali and Idd were celebrated with the same happiness. In these days, Bhandari used to live with his father and grandfather, who was Tehsildar of the village. Now in that same house lived a Muslim family. They treat Bhandari with great love and respect. Infact when the police officers arrive to search for him, he is hidden in the same house. back home, Bhandaries family members are questioned .They are harassed and intimidated. But it, was a fact that they didn’t know his whereabouts.
Dadi knew that he would be in Faridpur but she refuses to reveal the truth. Bhandari tries to cross the border and return to India, but his attempts are unsuccessful, finally resigned to`fate, he stays back and he tried to approach the authorities, he would have been immediately arrested, and court marshalled. As the days pass the entire village accepts him as the son of the soil, who returned to them. Bhandari changes his name and his identity and lives there as one of them. After almost one year, Dadima finally decides that enough is enough . She would somehow manage to bring her son back to India. she approaches the authorities and reveals what had happened Bhandari is traced and brought back to India. He loses his job and he is sent to prison. But he does not regret it. In that one year, he has lived a life equal to ten lives. He would always cherish the memories of those days.
