The famous saying “Every sinner has a future as every saint has a past” is reflected in the life of Manoharlal ,a God fearing, honest, middle aged man with a nice wife, two sons and a daughter. Lalita, the wife of Manoharlal and the mother of his children could never have imagined that long back in his youth the husband had been unfaithful to her and had married another women Sukanya. This he had done to lay his hands on the wealth of Sukanya’s father, Manoharlal , who was known to Sukanya as Vikas urged her to elope with him and get married to him. Thinking that Sukanya ‘s father would relent, but he didn’t. Even when Sukanya got pregnant he didn’t accept her in the house and disowned her of all his wealth. It was then that Manoharlal thought of returning to his own home and wife in Bombay.
He deserts Sukanya one night in poverty and comes back to his house where he finds his wife in advanced stage of pregnancy. After a few weeks she gives birth to a male child. Manoharlal is filled with remorse when he thinks of Sukanya who too is pregnant. This remorse didn’t leave him for next twenty five years. But he never had the courage to go back to Kolhapur and face Sukanya. It is after an accident, when Manoharlal is fighting between death and life that Lalita hears him utter three words in a semi unconscious condition “Forgive me Sukanya”that changes their lives forever.
When Manoharlal recovers Lalita confronts him and asks him who this woman Sukanya was from whom he was seeking forgiveness. Manoharlal tells her the whole truth. She is shattered to know that a man whom she always considered as a “Devata” is so cruel in fact. How could he leave a pregnant woman behind without any money and support? She tells Sanjay to go to Kolhapur to look for that woman and her child and bring them to her. She will do the Praishchit for her husband’s sake.
In Kolhapur, sukanya tells her young so to go to Bombay and kill that man with his own hands, who is responsible for their miserable existence.
The rest of the story revolves around these two young men, whether they succeed in their missions or not. It is the story of two women, married to the same man and betrayed by him. Do they reconcile to the fact that past is past? Do they forgive him? Do they both stay with him? All these characters and their lives make the story of ALAG ALAG.
